WPA3

WPA3 is the current Wi-Fi encryption standard that secures the wireless connection between a device and an access point.
WPA3 is the successor to WPA2 and governs how a Wi-Fi password turns into a secured connection. Its core is a method called SAE (Simultaneous Authentication of Equals), which resists offline password-guessing attacks far better than WPA2's older four-way handshake.
In practice, WPA3 shows up as an option in an access point's security settings, often alongside a transition mode that offers WPA2 and WPA3 side by side. That lets newer devices use WPA3 right away while older devices stay connected over WPA2.
A frequent snag: some older devices — legacy handheld scanners, label printers, or IoT gear — simply don't support WPA3. Switching a network to WPA3-only knocks those devices off entirely, which is why the mixed transition mode is often the more realistic choice in practice.
What it means in practice
